About you
I am a Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist working in the beautiful Lake District in the United Kingdom, having qualified with a first-class honors degree in Physiotherapy in 2004. With almost 20 years of clinical experience within both the National Health Service and private practice, I specialised in Neurological Rehabilitation in 2008, working with a range of clients living with both acute neurological illness and long-term degenerative conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson"s Disease, Muscular Atrophies and Motor Neurone Disease. In 2014, I also completed a 2-year Master"s Degree at the University of Sheffield, UK in Clinical Research with my thesis focusing on Long-term self-management strategies of community dwelling stroke survivors.
I currently work 2.5 days per week in Neurology out-patient clinics for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust as the clinical specialist physiotherapist, and then work the remainder of my week as Movement Disorders specialist, completing a 2-year National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) practice fellowship.
Working with people living with Parkinson"s disease and their families to live the best and most active life they can through physiotherapy and exercise is a personal passion, and through my fellowship I have become actively involved in the local Parkinson"s UK Cumbrian branch and am also a member of the Parkinsons UK Excellence Network and Exercise hub.
I am an associate scholar at both the University of Newcastle and Northumbria University, and therefore have links across the region and am happy to carry out assessments in person in either in Cumbria or in the North East, depending on my schedule. However, I am also experienced in carrying out both new assessments and ongoing therapeutic interventions remotely so would be happy to take on clients country wide if required.
